More Sea, More Deck

by Nick Walton

Azimut’s new Seadeck 9 turns a 26-metre superyacht into an open-air amphitheatre facing the sea, pairing an 180° Pool Deck and Matteo Thun interiors with a hybrid-ready hull and silent Hotel Mode.

If you’re in the market for a yacht that embraces the sea like never before, the new Azimut Seadeck 9 is 26 metres of maritime innovation and Italian finesse.

The new arrival pushes the Italian yacht brand’s Seadeck Series towards its most open layout yet, with the line’s signature ‘Fun Island’ now replaced with a space dubbed the 180° Pool Deck, an amphitheatre-shaped terrace that opens the yacht’s stern directly onto the water, with a flush-deck pool peering over a seven-square-metre platform that converts into a handy swim step.

Down to the Waterline

The new Azimut feeds into a movement across the yachting scene, from coastal cruisers to the biggest yachts basking in the Mediterranean sun, and that’s one of connection with the water. Sure, you’d think that being on a boat is as much connection as you can muster without applying for a PADI license, but for decades outer decks on yachts of all sizes were framed in by tall bulwarks, and you needed to be very deliberate to get within toe-dipping distance of the water.

However, that’s all changed, and now major players like Azimut are working harder than ever to grey the lines between gin palace and melted ice.

Core to the new Azimut’s positioning is its aft deck, where twin stairs cascade down towards the water’s edge, lateral wings unfold outward from the sides, and the swim platform hydraulically lowers into the sea. Exterior designer Alberto Mancini has kept the yacht’s profile deliberately clean, fully concealing the anchor to preserve what Azimut calls a sculptural silhouette.

Inside, Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez — known for building longevity and wellbeing into their architecture — extended the outdoor language through light walnut or pale oak accents, full-height windows, a disappearing glass door, and a lower-deck Master Cabin styled after eco-resort spas.

The Engineering Behind the Calm

The Seadeck 9’s efficient planing hull allows her to plane earlier and cruise more efficiently at lower speeds while carbon fibre construction making up 40% of the build helps keep fuel costs down on those cheeky weekend jaunts down to Hainan or the beaches of Phuket.

Once you get to where you’re going, a 60kWh lithium battery pack runs the air conditioning, galley appliances and entertainment systems with the generators off, translating as up to four hours by day and eight overnight of blissful silence. Even better, the battery pack recharges fully in five hours from shore power, a factor that’s arguably a bigger selling point than the pool deck itself.

But we guess that depends on who you’re taking a dip with.
